1. What can I ask?
Now the database contains information about two topics:
- Science, Computer Science. This topic includes the documents obtained from ACM, Citeseer, MPII, Saarland University and several web directories like Yahoo.
- Entertainment, Movies. This topic includes documents obtained from several film festivals like Oscar, IMDB, Amazon and several web directories.

2. Why does the sample text look so weird?
Unfortunately, we do not have yet as nice a sample text system as Google. That is why it is better to see the documents themselves. |
3. What does "No results, please try another query!" mean?
It means that for a given query there are no matches. SEEV uses the "AND" model to perform queries with several keywords. That is why if one of words is not in the dictionary the system will return "No results". In this case we recommend you to verify the entered keywords one more time. The system stems all keywords. |
4. Why could it be sometimes so slow?
The normal response time is less than 1 minute, normally it takes only a few seconds. If it takes more than five minutes then the system has been slowed down. There could be several reasons for it:
- The database is slow due high load. The same database is used for several projects and some of them make the database very slow.
- There are too many users and our system makes the database very slow.
- The server where the SEEV is installed is very slow due to some reason.
In all cases we ask you to be patient, we are just human beings. |
5. What do "relevant and irrelevant" mean?
Relevant and Irrelevant are two types of relationships between the query and the result document.
- The document is relevant to the given query.
- The document is irrelevant to the given query.

6. Can I search in German? Can I use another language?
You can use German for the search, but with some limitations. The system uses a special stemmer which can, in general, recognize special german characters and replace them. Unfortunately "for some" words it can not do that. That is why you should be very careful with umlaut-words. Non latin languages, e.g. Russian, Chinese, are not supported. |
7. What do the buttons "feedback" and "evaluate" do?
The button "feedback" is used to send your feedback for the given query. The feedback should contain documents which are relatively very relevant or very irrelevant to the given query. Assume we have the result with top 25 documents and we see that only one document is only slightly relevant, in this case we recommend you to pick such a document as the relevant one, but also pick several irrelevant documents which are very irrelevant. It allows the system to distinguish relevant and relevant documents better. You do not need to pick every document for a result list.
The button "evaluate" is used for testing the system. In this case it is better to give your opinion for as many documents as possible. We ask you to give your opinion for at least 10 documents among first 25 results. We need this information for our research. |
8. How can I register or log in? Why do I need to?
You can register here
If you have already been registered and you have a login and a password you can log in here
If you have any problem write us a letter
In general, SEEV works without any registration, but we believe that we can provide better service for registered users. The system could trace the registered user and create several personal profiles, which promise to be more effective. |
