Evaluation
All components of the
BINGO! system are implemented in
Java:
database-related parts of the engine are
implemented as Stored Procedures under the Java virtual machine
of Oracle8i,
all other parts are Java servlets under the
Apache web server.
For the preliminary experiments presented in this section, we ran
BINGO! for a time period of several hours
(thus simulating a situation where the human user
demands information overnight) on an Intel 1GHz computer with 1 GByte
of memory under Solaris 5.8. The initial experiments used the example
ontology file. The bookmarks were manually compiled by selecting up to 50
URLs from the corresponding categories of
www.yahoo.com.
