Law's successor in Boston, Archbishop (later Cardinal) found it necessary to sell substantial real estate properties and close a number of churches in order to pay the $120 million in claims against the archdiocese.Two bishops of Palm Beach, Florida resigned due to child abuse allegations. Resigned bishop Joseph Keith Symons was replaced by Anthony O'Connell, who later also resigned in 2002.
