We have to look here regardless of the languages people speak today and rather at the paleo-genetical makeup of these populations, rather at the whole I HG and its subclades, that originated in the Dinaric-Carpathic basin 18000 ya and expanded Northward all the way to Scandinavia and NW Europe, consequently being the Proto-Germanic, viking root. The other major European Haplo Groups are R1B in Western Europe and R1A in the Eur-Asian Steppe, R1a reached Europe much later with the kurgan culture maybe 5000 ya conquering the Gumelnița-Karanovo, Cucuteni-Tripolie matriarchal cultures of the Old Europe.
