The Max-Planck Institute für Informatik (MPII) and the Hochschule für Musik Saar (HFM) have ratified a cooperation agreement. Both partners have agreed to closely cooperate in research and education with the goal to advance the field of computer-based music research. In the course of the opening ceremony of the Science Summer 2009 (Wissenschaftssommer 2009), the agreement was signed by the executive director of the MPII, Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Seidel, and the rector of the HFM, Prof. Thomas Duis. In the signing ceremony, various high-ranking politicians were present including Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan (Federal Minister for Education and Research), Dr. Peter Müller (Prime Minister, Saarland), and Dr. Joachim Rippel (Minister for Economics and Research, Saarland).
The main objective of the collaboration between the Max-Planck Institute für Informatik (MPII) and the Hochschule für Musik Saar (HFM) is to establish a common platform, where computer scientists and musicians can explore and discuss the application of computer-based methods in music research.
